At Imagine Children’s Museum, every day brings new opportunities to spark curiosity, inspire creativity, and build connections. For our staff, especially those who work directly with guests, these moments often become lasting memories. Some are filled with laughter, and others unfold quietly, leaving a lasting imprint. Caitlyn, one of our dedicated Curiosity Guides, recently shared a story that beautifully illustrates the power of human connection and the heart of our mission.
Last year, a little boy approached her and began asking many questions about herself. After a few minutes of back and forth, he paused and asked, “Do you like talking to me?” When Caitlyn said yes, he told her she did not have to lie. She gently reassured him that she truly meant it. In that moment, Caitlyn realized they shared something important. As someone on the spectrum, communication has not always come easily to her, especially when she was growing up. She understood what it felt like to wonder whether people enjoyed talking to her.
As the two of them spent the next hour exploring Imagine together, Caitlyn spoke to him in the ways she once wished someone had spoken to her. She took her time, followed his lead, and made space for his curiosity. Since that day, the boy and his father have become regular visitors. They always make a point to say hello to Caitlyn, and she has even invited him to help during a session of Playing With Music. A bond has been formed, one built on trust, understanding, and the joy of being seen.
“I feel like sometimes we forget what it was like when we were kids,” Caitlyn says. “But here, you get a glimpse of yourself as a kid. You get the opportunity to tell the kids what you would have wanted to hear when you were young.”
At Imagine, we believe every child deserves to feel valued, heard, and included. Our commitment to diversity and inclusion means creating a space where all children, regardless of background or ability, can thrive. Caitlyn’s story is just one example of how our team fosters meaningful connections that can change lives. For one young boy, Imagine became a place where he felt welcome, understood, and excited to return.
When you give to Imagine Children’s Museum, you are doing more than enriching a child’s life through playful learning. You are helping create meaningful connections that can shape lives in ways you might never expect. Imagine exists for moments like Caitlyn’s, moments of understanding, inclusion, and joy. These experiences ripple outward, shaping how children see themselves and the world around them. With your generosity, we are not just building a museum. We are building a community where every child feels seen, heard, and valued.
