Little Vets, Big Hearts: A Week of Discovery at Imagine Children’s Museum

For many of our youngest campers, this week marked a big milestone. It was their first time away from parents. The first morning brought a few tears and extra snuggles, and in some cases, a parent stayed close to ease the transition. Our staff welcomed children of all abilities, ensuring every camper felt safe and included.

By the second hour, the classroom was buzzing with joy and curiosity as children began making friends and diving into their new roles as veterinarians in training. Through stories like Vicki the Vet and Not Norman, campers explored the world of animal care, learning what pets need and how veterinarians help keep them healthy.

A staff member behind the camera shared that the energy in the classroom was vibrant and full of life. The children were not just playing, they were truly learning. For many, this was their first camp experience, and it was easy to see how they shifted from being nervous to laughing, chatting, and fully engaging with their peers. It was heartwarming to watch them flourish in such a supportive and playful environment.

One of the highlights was watching the children experiment with measuring tapes. They eagerly stretched them across tables, chairs, and even the floor, giggling as they discovered what was too long for their tape to reach. These small but important early learning moments, like understanding tools, comparing lengths, and solving problems, are the kind of skills that build curiosity and confidence for the future.

Each day brought new adventures, from examining animal bones and creating X-rays to visiting the Museum’s wildlife rescue center and meeting real pets like a guinea pig, a turtle, and a tiny hamster. Campers learned the difference between tame and wild animals, discovered how feathers help birds stay warm and dry, and even built their own imaginary pets. Whether painting animals, making bird puppets, or caring for Hermie the hermit crab, our little vets showed compassion, creativity, and a growing understanding of the animal world.

Imagine is where small moments turn into big growth. With your support, we can continue to give children these joyful first camp experiences.
